A note from the Deacons: Norfield Church welcomes all congregants to join us for in-person worship in the Norfield Sanctuary as well as online via YouTube. The Holy Spirit is truly alive at Norfield, and fills our Sanctuary every Sunday as we join our hearts together in prayer, music, faith and devotion to Jesus Christ. Please feel free to wear a mask if you choose; we will also provide masks to those who need one. To learn more visit Connecticut's COVID-19 guidelines.

The Learning Journey

2nd session: Wednesday, December 2nd from 6pm - 9pm

Dear Norfielders,

After the killing of George Floyd in June, our country entered a period of racial reckoning unlike any since the civil rights movement of the 1960s. This time, the images of brutality in the news led many across the country (and the world) to join protests against systemic injustices. Norfielders organized the nightly ringing of our bell through the summer in solidarity.

Subsequently, the "Learning Journey," was kicked off in September with approximately 30 Norfielders engaged in two 3-hour sessions of self-reflection, assumption questioning, and knowledge raising on the issues of racism and privilege. Participants gave feedback that it was powerful and at times uncomfortable (we are reminded that Jesus’ parables, although probably much more discomforting to their first century audience, often still leave us uncomfortable).

Following up on repeated requests in the feedback -- “we want more” and “more Norfielders should have an opportunity to participate” -- we are offering another "Learning Journey" session via Zoom.

Our journey began on Monday, November 30th and continues this Wednesday, December 2nd, from 6:00-9:00pm. No time slot is perfect for everyone, but our evening sessions provide those unable to join during the day an opportunity to participate.

We are heartened to see Norfielders raise racial justice on our agenda, and we are so grateful to the Outreach and Social Action Board for inspired leadership on this. We hope you will consider joining the journey!

Peace and Blessings,

Rev. Dr. Bernard R. Wilson, Senior Minister
Mary F. Crawford, Moderator.
